Hello Internet! [02 Dec 2009|01:37am]
[ mood | inspired ]

It's been so long since I've written, well, anything, that it feels like a whole different lifetime.. In this bubble of time so much has happened. I had a brief stint at a self improvement/employment magazine, saw my work in print in the WGW Almanack and landed myself a new project to work on.

The website has continued, though life would be much easier if i had a full writing team (positions available!)

Mid October I moved in with Clairey and I have to say, it is and is not what I was expecting from home life but it's been great to do it with her.
We have a computer suite set up and a studio room for my lil' lady arteest to work in, so getting back to creativity has taken the form of a nagging feeling lurking at the back of my mind.

Getting up to speed of productivity has been difficult. I am still suffering with depression so the independence as well as some of my more grandiose ventures fall by the wayside in lieu of a nights sleep or physical movement. Some post from my niece (which I took forever to reply to) was inspiring with a view to writing. Once I started writing my reply, my enthusiasm for writing sprung up like a geyser!. I saw an illustration by Edward Gorey and was inspired to write a poem. Soon after this a long overdue review flew onto the paper, and here I am, writing to the blogosphere with an entry in my analogue journal soon to follow.

I have also been trying to power through my book collection, reading Harry Potter, Ghost in the Shell and Invincible since the move, starting on Local Government revision, Alice In Wonderland and the hobbit. A busy, busy brain.

I'm hoping all this effort pays off and I achieve something out of this before I slump again.
We also have adopted the cutest little kitty by the name of Meku I hope to do a picture post about soon, until then I'm signing off saying; Hello World..

Gir Has Returned.

I've left the house twice.
The bouncy castle was fun.
And my sisters pet cat Jingles is awesome.
More on this and a picture post when I get back.
For now, bye!

But... Its bed time! [26 Apr 2009|04:40pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]
[ music | VNV Nation - Joy ]

Hey there people. Until thursday my sleep was all over the place. I had little to none on the day itself and resolved to actually get into some sort of a pattern and get up early Friday.
I did and it was awesome.
I felt like a fog had lifted from my head, and we planned to do the same for Whitby.
Baths and breakfasts take much less time when you have an extra 5 to 6 hours in the day, but its ridiculous how early you run out of things to do! Especially when you've run out of money to fill the day with. Its odd to be awake hours before what would normally be bed time. And in some cases that's not an exaggeration.
The new wakey-wakey pattern does have the drawback of feeling heavily lagged around 4pm because I'm simply not used to being up all day anymore.

Saturday got me my usual Whitby haul of some vinyl and a handful of CDs, namely the latest Combichrist and the second Angelspit album, but clothes didn't really catch my eye this time round.
With a lot of new events and stuff I want to visit and some bad ass outfits out there I wanna lose a lot of weight before I buy new pants/tops. I'm especially resolved to get skinny after a visit to boots where I got my BMI calculated.
I think I prefer what the dodgy scales back home say.
I'm currently trying to increase my out put on Necromag, with the Podcast getting more professional with each try, and facebook greatly expanding the sites followers.
Currently I'm working on an a bulletin to highlight an awesome offer of tickets and transport to see Combichrist in Sunderland on May 25th for £17 inclusive, which I'll link here when its posted.
Its taking a lot to push myself to work at the moment but I honestly think I'm getting more productive. Bit by bit.
Hell I'm posting here aren't I?

Howdy there bloggerinos! [19 Apr 2009|05:05am]
Hey there people. I forgot what i was going to blog about, so give me a comment and it might remind me.
I'm totally knackered and my brains abit frazzled from trying to cross-post things everywhere and do a little online promotion for necromag, that and playing warcraft and fighting with my podcast host.

Good night people. next time i read this it might make a bit more sense.

Not quite the graduate... yet. [24 Feb 2009|08:51pm]
[ mood | anxious ]

Here we are a few weeks since the last of my NCTJ exams. I've still not heard about my results.
To be more accurate, I've not heard about anything save for my shorthand results which are marked externally, which I failed btw.
Been trying to keep myself busy but I don't really know what to focus on, like practice or searching, with not knowing if the training portion of this career path is bloody over or not. Still, I do need to keep up with the work. Its harder to keep up the practice outside the structured environment of going in for lessons mind you, so I really need to get my focus back.

In other news I've been keeping busy with Necromag. Been recording podcasts with Ben aka the Oxking and we're trying to plan a big promotional push for the site.
In fact it would really be some of the first real publicity we've sorted for the site. I've got fliers designed, thanks to some very lovely people who help out (^_^ just saying....^_^), but they do need to be printed enmasse and distributed/stocked. I've been wondering if maybe a print version of the mag would do us better for the sake of exposure and eventually profitability but really, I just want someone to read the damn thing and enjoy it. Maybe get informed about something at a push.

I'm not losing my ambition, its just odd being back in the outside world and having time to push the damn thing again.
I'm trying to get myself sorted aswell, keep up with all my prescriptions, exercise maybe, organise definitely, and just try to get somewhere.

Hello again blogosphere! I'm back

There's life in the old G.I.R yet! [28 Dec 2008|02:46pm]

GREETINGS CITIZENS!

I'm still alive, and still trundling along. I'm roughly three quarters of the way through my journalism course and I've passed 2 of the tests so far. In need of a severe boost on the shorthand side of things but I'm doing good I'd say.

Christmas was quite good. I've drank a lot less than expected, but there's still new years' to come. It was great to spend it with Claire this time around, instead of being half a county, followed by a country apart in the space of a week like I was last year.
She seems to have loved the gift I got her.
It came in a mammoth box, half filled with polystyrene curls, the most inedible thing to resemble a quaver ever(irrelevant), but it was still quite hefty once it came out of the cardboard.

Might have some new hardware heading my way in the new year with a desktop PC on the horizon for my January purchases.
With many thanks to Claire for her assistance, we have worked on a new set of clothes for the Necromag site to give it a new look for the new year.
So take a peek at http://www.necromag.co.uk if at all interested.

I am drifting into the arena of the unwell. [15 Sep 2008|07:44am]
[ mood | sick ]

I hate Monday mornings. It would appear my belly does too. Its been glurbling at me for ages and I've been having some unsavory experiences with it across the past hour. suffice it to say i gave college a miss today in favor of not dashing out of the room/car/window every few minutes. Heres hoping I don't get too far behind and can utilize my time productively in the moment.

The BrainDrain Game [01 Sep 2008|07:45pm]
Jesus, I feel Zonked! I've not been doing much physical stuff today at the college. Its all my brain thats tired me out. I forgot how hard learning is when you've been out of the loop. Mind you that was only the last 2 hours of the day that actually consisted of real work. the rest was registration and enrollment. So now I'm officially on the books, i have to hit the books and currently I'm working on my shorthand.
So for now Adeiu, and i can talk about the rest of the course tomorrow.

Here I am, Sunday night, fresh from running around all week looking for funding, placements and pencil cases and I'm bricking it about tomorrow.

Its a new chapter. I'm going to be committed and do well this time round but I'm so scared. I wanna get things right.

Wish me luck guys.

Well, well, well. [14 Aug 2008|01:11pm]
Hey guys! I've not posted in quite a long time.
Heres life in bullet points:

1. I had an interview for an NCTJ accredited Journalism course on August 8th

2. I Got accepted August 13th!

Awesome. I'm so excited, but i know its going to be hard work.
The rest of the time I've been hanging out with Claire. She's been keeping me company while my family is away on holiday. On top of all that theres the fact that i've been trying to keep on top of necromag.co.uk but still my reviews are taking too long to write. I'm going to have to sort up a work rota for the site.
Add to that I plan a big redesign too.
Speaking of redesigns, Claire helped me redo my journal layout. She made me the sexy background and I loves her even more for it.

In other news too, i'm in the last 2 levels (for now) of World of Warcraft.

So i'm busy but invisible.
Gimme a shout people!

So lately I've been all over with trying to get more freelance site work and what not. And Spending time with Clairey. Health appointments, Money, referrals, etc. Still trying to sort out a reference for my NCTJ application. Started clearing out, cleaning up and planting in the garden. And AND AND! I got some oil for the TIKI TORCHES.... Um. My room is the cleanest its been in years and I wanna get on top of all sorts of things in my life now. Diet, exercise. Get back into writing in all of my journals including the real ones. And make money. Necromag is expanding nicely, and might need a few design changes soon. I've got quite a bit I'm thinking through doing and sorting out but its getting to the doing stage that never happens and I really will this time around.

Bother [11 Mar 2008|04:22pm]
[ mood | Bothered ]
[ music | Blutengel - Burning Heaven ]

Sometimes it hurts a little when it should be entertaining. I've been watching the latest series of Skins almost religiously and half the episodes have hurt to watch for some reason. Its not my life, and I'm not that emotionally invested in any of the characters (even though Cassie is ditsy-cute and theres a little Sid in all of us) but there seems to be something in the plot thats like a razor to the chest. Maybe I'm that kind of guy or I'm going soft(er). Particularly the episodes about Sid's family and the most recent ep. I enjoyed them. I was amused, but it still hurt some how. ANY WAY... In the "Real" news the trial of Sophie Lancaster's murderers and at the same time attempted murderers of her boyfriend attacked for no reason other than their choice of sub culture and fashion sense has hit the pages again. Only one of the arrested has actually pleaded guilty to murder. It bothers me how blasé this headline has come across. It bothers me that the incident is almost forgotten now. It bothers me how apathetic even people like us, the same kind of people who could have this happen at any moment on the streets of Teesside, are about the assault. I know people who've been attacked for the very same reason and all the publicized political activities about violence on the streets seem to be towards making drink more expensive rather than dealing with the closed mindedness, bigotry and temper of the sort who do such things. It truly bothers me. For more on the Sophie campaign please see the Ox Kings article on Necromag.co.uk
I have a few reviews to do for one of the sites I freelance for and Necromag itself, and I aught to get some semblance of order in my den of journalising soon.
Toodles people.

Star Sign
Scorpio (Oct24-Nov22)
If you're looking for new ways to
make money, explore opportunities related to writing, teaching,
publishing, and broadcasting. You have a gift for providing the public
with the information it wants. If you'd like to test the waters, why
not start a blog? You could become famous for your insightful and
irreverent comments. Writing is a nice way to gather fame, because
you're able to get accolades without having people gawk at you.

Now how the hell do I get paid for a bloody blog? This just after the Gazette finall got back in contact with ye olde "we regret to inform you that..." slip. What pissed me of fthis time is the "Dear Sir or Madam". At least put the same effort in I did. Its as demeaning as when chavs get confused about my gender when I'm at the cash point. And thats without wearing heels. Hell, if I had a gigantic beard I'd still get that stuff, but thats not important. Now I know I haven't got it, so now I've got to go get it.

Penny for an irreverant comment Guvnor?

Zeppelin Envy [06 Dec 2007|01:04am]

Having recently seen both Stardust with Robert Deniro as a Sky-Pirate and as of tonight The Golden Compass I have come to the realisation that every film I see is going to hammer home the point I want my own Zeppelin and crew of miscreants to embark on steam punk adventures featuring Stolen thunder and Daemon Ferrets.
Where is my airship dammit?

A Long Time Coming. [04 Dec 2007|06:42am]
[ mood | awake ]
[ music | Mad Capsule Markets - Tribe ]

Ok, so its been a long time since I updated. Before Whitby. A fair Bit to say.
A fair bit to be said about work and whitby )
Now I'm out of that place, the little tasks pushed aside, for even years in some cases, are getting dug out and done. My room and life are getting cleared out. No work means no excuses. I'm slowly but surely getting moviated and chipping away at the piles. Hell, even this post took weeks. mainly because I wanted to get all the photos for whitby off before I started, Then internet problems and ETC sidetracked and.... you get the picture. But being without work means being without cash and after Whitby I more than emptied several accounts. Towards the end of last week I finally got the first pennies I could manage to scrape together since whitby in my hand. £100.40 from the sick, cause the 40p makes all the difference and less than half regular wages for the hours I'd worked before I left. Which almost takes us up to the present date. I've only just started my Christmas shopping and can't wait for Claires birthday to roll around on thursday. I must rember to drink less of that gold stuff on her do come friday mind. I said it was a long time coming, and Indeed all of it was.

Toodles

An Invite & A Day Awake.. [19 Oct 2007|02:35pm]
[ mood | productive ]
[ music | Tapping The Vein - The Damage ]

The invite in question apertains to a certain event known as Fab and Kinky at T.J.'s in Newport. Granted, its not around the corner for us all, but I'lll have been paid and It has Angelspit. If y'all don't wanna go they're playing Newcastle soon so its not going to ruin anything.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I've grown to be a fan of this group and I wanna keep up my gig going after Whitby following a bulletin posted by Knightsie of Crown Rock Night Fame about gig going apathy. Maybe its financial, maybe its a sheer lack of interest, maybe people are too busy but this is the sort of thing that pushes people to the point where they can no longer be bothered to deal with the hardship of setting up someone elses hard rocking. I've spoken about event promoting many a time, but this guy got out there and got a few good size acts to visit our humble corner. Mortiis, Deathstars, Raging Speedhorn and whatnot. An impressive roster. This night at T.J.'s was initially mentioned to me by a group of people I met at Download Fest 2007. Camp Crazy Legs. Some of the coolest, most hard rocking Toga wearing Phallus Greeting People you're likely to ever meet... in a field. Anywho, of all the meet ups that have been posed, all the road trips and what not that seem to have been mentioned this seems to be a good opportunity at least to swing into town for a few hours. If anyones interested I'll try to swing it, otherwise, no dice. The reason I mentioned Knightsies post is it made me think about why I go to so few gigs.
Indeed, I had been optimistic about The Deathstars gig, And the Raging Speedhorn one... Then I noticed I was working those nights and don't get me started on work again please... I've got another post coming up about New years soon.. Factor in distance and cost for the larger, further away gigs and thats a few more bands missed. The fact I'm not as free anymore makes me miss my chances to remind myself I'm not old and reserved just yet. I keep saying "We never have any 'Adventures' anymore" but I gotta just do instead of talk about doing! ^_^
Speaking of doing, I got up REASONIBLY early for me at 930 ish and ventured forth to town to secure some smelly supplies for whitby and the cash with which to procure said stuff. I found out a few more News companies from my brother Mark and promptly researched them at noon when he visited between work meetings, only to find again I am underqualified and not living in Cardiff. Still, the important thing it I'm looking. I even took the initiative to check levels on my car and top up oil and screen wash, things I've been meaning to do for a good long while. Before work swings around again I might get to fixing the shower(ammended, I just havE!), having a bath, redesigning my site thats been offline for god knows how long and getting the first of my Whitby Stuff packed. The peculiar side is I had a fairly late night too. I guess its more motivation than energy thats been driving me today. I have more to do but I'll probably need help from my good friend and occasional lovers caffiene and alcohol. Toodle pip you good peoples of the interwebiverse.
